Still trying to recover from seeing Chet Atkins with a Telecaster hanging around his neck. Well, that; and Jerry Reed’s entry in the late-century Elvis seventy-five-percent-chinstrap sideburn contest.

Can't hardly see his sideburns for that Dubai-Tower-height collar.
Not taking anything away from Chet, but Jerry Reed just rocked. So completely under appreciated. Such an awesome picker. You got taste, homes. That and knowledge of who could manipulate that guit box.
Just sayin'…..

Man, and I always thought Jerry Reed was just a funny, good-old-boy drinking buddy of Burt Reynolds, along for the cinematic ride. Of course, "East Bound and Down" is on my 2-plus hour iTunes "Trucker Mix" (A multi-year labor of kitschy love in which no one but myself finds the entertainment and humor – especially anyone else in the car – and a must on any road trip). I knew a bunch of his (mostly "novelty") songs, but I never realized he was a real player, and that he died in '08. His stature just grew exponentially in my book. Thanks (again) for the enlightenment, Sippican. It may not be a road trip, but I'm playing that mix on the commute tomorrow (if I can find where my wife hid the CD), and if anyone's interested in my "Trucker Mix," I'll gladly send along the playlist (only the best songs about 18 wheelers, life on the road, etc.).
Yep, that Telecaster looked out of place, but Chet sure made it sing.
If you enjoy Chet Atkins' style of picking, do yourself a favor and make it a point to go see Tommy Emmanuel do a live performance.
Saw him play here in Nashville a couple years ago — it was some of the most insane super-human guitar playing I've ever seen in my life.
