Hey, his first four solo albums are outstanding. But even by the fourth, Never a Dull Moment, there were signs of load-hood that can now be seen in retrospect. His career arc is similar to Elton John's, in that his first four albums were pretty good too (e.g., Tumbleweed Connection), before he slid off into campy self-parody. Interestingly, you can pinpoint the absolute demise of both to that awful duet they did in 1974, Let Me Be Your Car. Spent forces, both. After which the real money came rolling in.
I listen to Every Picture Tells a Story regularly.
The combination of acoustic instruments with the mighty drumming of Mick Waller was a great sound. He was a vastly superior drummer to Kenney Jones of the Faces.

In that particular cut his first and enduring mistake is "Slow down."

I had the pleasure of seeing Rod Stewart with The Faces in the early '70's. It was a show second to none.
I saw Rod Stewart and Faces on tour with Three Dog Night in 1971.
