A Man Who Has Nothing In Particular To Recommend Him Discusses All Sorts of Subjects at Random as Though He Knew Everything

They Suffered For Their Music — Now It’s Your Turn: Unorganized Hancock

The likely lads are back with a new Arctic Monkeys song, Bigger Boys and Stolen Sweethearts. Not much chance of anyone prying any girls away from these two, but they have to sing something. And I can assure you it’s plenty arctic in the room they’re playing in. Got no heat.

Many, many thanks to everyone that has supported the boys in their musical endeavors. When they’re famous, you can add “impresario” to your business card. According to Google, they’re already more famous than the actual Unorganized Hancock, which is a real place. Well, I guess it’s real. No one’s ever returned from a trip there, but I like to look on the bright side of things. Perhaps they were eaten by bears. The alternative — that they decided to stay there — is too depressing to contemplate.

[Update: Many Thanks, Kathleen M, for your generous support! And Dave R’s continuing support is a wonder. Good advice, too. Many thanks!]

  1. I'm thinking the Buddy Holly glasses and Groucho eyebrow moves are working for him here.

As for the drummer….. well, according to my songbook:

    "The drummer's in hiding,
    He can't be spied,
    But the singer is taking
    It all in stride.
He knows life on the street
    Is never ever as sweet
As life here on the Other Side."

  2. Man that is a technically difficult song to play and I can't believe you found a drummer that young who could pull it off.
Iwas just thinking last night as i went throught the archives that even though this whole enterprise startged off with a story about the boys playing the Arctic Monkeys there wasn't any O.H. vid of "Mardy Bum".
"In Your Atmosphere" was really nice (reminded me of Little Martha tho) and I sure enjoyed "Room for Squares" and "Heavier Things".
I was gonna request "Animals" by Neon Trees. You guys are making amazing progress!

  3. Hi Dad of- He's a scamp, that little one.

    Hi Casey- Thanks.

Gerard- What's the difference between a drummer and a pizza? A pizza can feed a family of four.

Hi Dave- No one taught him the drumbeat. He listens to the song and can play it. He's really quite unusual.

The boys played Mardy Bum quite a while ago. My older brother was visiting, and he played the bass with them. He played my right-handed bass upside-down, which boggles my mind. My brain doesn't work that way. The video was on my Vimeo account so you couldn't find it. Here it is. It was a marvelous day.

  4. Honey, you'll be peeling girls off those fine boys long before you're ready.

Of course hiding that handsome pair at home might buy you a few years of parental innocence.

At last Saturday's dinner party, we played your sons great collection of work and asked for suggestions of music that would best suit Unorganized Hancock.

Anything by Emerson Lake and Palmer ranked number one, mostly for the similar range of voice.

Cake's version of I Will Survive was a big winner.

    Elbow's Grounds For Divorce

And my personal favorite, Chris Rea's Texas.

  5. Hi Daphne- Emerson Lake and Palmer? Look, I'm as cooperative as the next guy, but I'm not carrying a Hammond organ up those stairs into the attic.

Holy cow, I haven't heard Chris Rea's name in forever. I remember playing Whatever Happened to Benjamin Santini on the college radio station way back when.

The boys are working on one of your suggestions right now.

Oops. It's nine o clock. One boy is now working on one of your suggestions while dad carries the other one piggyback up the stairs to bed.

    More details ahead!

  6. Yes, I killed my own joke.
It was supposed to read "This is by no means THE FIRST TIME I've been associated with seconds on Cake
    Sorry bout dat
