  1. That is marvelous, and yet I can't help wondering how much of the secret ingredient in Bob's bread is, well… Bob. Or at least his sweater.

  2. We note with approval the blowing of the nose, the subsequent poking of the loaves, and the general "Slap on some surgeon's rubber gloves for this? Merde. C'est le ingredient secret!"

  3. "A menial job in the workshop of a master is the only education worth a damn." Damn straight.
I apprenticed in a "pot shop" for three years. Life lessons there. Making pottery is very closely related to the art of making bread…..local raw materials, chemistry, heat, knowledge acquisition plus intuition and over time, wa-la! Thanks for this delightful documentary.

  4. Hi Mizz E- De nada.

By the way, I lived in Los Angeles for a while, and the preferred nomenclature is "muchas Garcias."

Look, there goes another one now.

  5. Thanks — that was wonderful. The bread was lovely enough, but he just about killed me with that saucisson sec at the end. Off to the store to find some, to enjoy with a good loaf of bread, some cornichons, and a glass of wine.
