Everyone loves Mose Allison. Tom Lehrer. George Carlin. Mark Twain. They belong to a select few that can spend a goodly portion of their time being irascible, but somehow manage to make being the rock in the world’s shoe feel like a massage to the pedestrians.
“If, after hearing my songs, just one human being is inspired to say
something nasty to a friend, or perhaps to strike a loved one, it will
all have been worth the while.” –Tom Lehrer

Mose, another peculiar import from Mississippi to the broader U.S.A.
I've got vinyl copies of "Local Color" & "Back County Suite", I think his very first LP's, from the late 1950's. Both are a mix of originals, instrumentals, and covers. I particularly like his version of "Seventh Son", which IIRC is a Willie Dixon tune; he delivers the song's boastful lyric in a really fine and attractive dry understatement.
Good pianist, too. Played for a bunch of '50's jazz cats before he made his own records.
