  1. Never heard of him, so I Wikipediad the old boy. Very interesting. I think he may fit in a post I am writing…

  2. Satie was the epitome of moody, lonely simplicity… tinkling solo at the piano. He actually had a gig for many years providing the background music at the Lapine Agile, the "speedy rabbit", which is the tiny saloon where Van Gogh, Gauguin, and later on Hemingway, used to sip absinthe and while away the evenings. That saloon still exists, only a block or two north of the Sacre-Coeur Cathedral which stands upon the hill of Montmartre. Go to Youtube and type in "Satie-Gymnopedie" and you will here what is probably his most familiar musical meditation.
