  1. My father has a first-series Tom Swift hardcover that he hollowed out when he was a kid. He built a crystal radio that fit inside. He figured it was the kind of thing Tom Swift would do, and I think he was right.

  2. I loved Tom Swift — it was already in re-publication when I was a kid. Hardy Boys. Tom Sawyer. All of that. We go off into the woods near our neighborhood and recreate those stories all over again. Cowboys and Indians. Re-fight World War II based on the stories our fathers told us. It was glorius.

  3. I have actually owned the top Swift title, can’t tell about the others. And the Twain as well.

(But why is my “Not-Spam” identification word below “Oustrati”?)

  4. Hello all thanks for reading and commenting.

Gerard- I’m jut blue-skying here — you know, throwing things out there; running it up the flagpole to see who salutes; throwing it against the wall to see what sticks — at any rate — just two guys talking here; just taking a stab at it; it’s just one man’s opinion:

You should read that Twain book you own. It’s pretty good.

    Oustrati is better than castrati.

  5. I had a number of the Tom Swift books, as well as more of the Rick Brant Science Adventures. All much newer editions than in your picture. Such memories.

I was certain that I would be able to buy my own plane by the time I could drive! That didn’t happen but it was a great dream.
