Remember, we’ve always been at war with Eastasia. Botox Lurch said so. Must be true.

  1. Good morning. I am Leonard Pinth-Garnell, and welcome to another episode of "Bad Pop Music." Today's episode is really awful, a pretentious cliche of a rant against "The Man," a faux-indignant, hackneyed shot across the bow of the military-industrial complex, a cheap attempt to cash in by decrying the very capitalistic system they are trying to exploit…we hope you enjoy it.

  2. Ah man, I just had t-shirts made with "I heart Eastasia" on them.

Dang those sneaky blackguards, tricking me into using the wrong name.

    Go Eurasia!

  3. Jeez. Ain't it enough to write a catchy tune with a whistle chorus? Why ball it up with pretentious garble? Later you might end up writing something as embarrassing as "Dear God".

This reminds me of all the bands I loved as a kid, like XTC, but found myself excusing or ignoring the lyrics so I could enjoy the music. Of course sometimes I did that because the lyrics were just bad, even absent social commentary.

I never understood, even as an alterna-punk kid, why anybody would listen to pop musicians and expect them as a matter of course to have anything useful to say about anything other than "listen to this here catchy tune". If you get meaningful content beyond that, it's candy, and probably an accident.
