A Man Who Has Nothing In Particular To Recommend Him Discusses All Sorts of Subjects at Random as Though He Knew Everything

Working In Plein Sight

My Intertunnel friend from the wrong coast, Casey Klahn, at work at his easel. He is a very fine artist. He exhibits a kind of bravery in his work. Boldness.

It is a solitary thing to make things, and it’s always piquant to get a look at people when they’re working at it.

See more of his work at The Colorist.

  1. Very nice.

I read a quote from, I think it was Picasso of all people, that solitude helps the artist. I certainly have that in my studio, which is way out in the middle of wheat and forest country. Our population density is less than that of the coyote and Whitetail by no small amount.

Anyway, solitude is hard to give up, and so the vid (shot by an inanimate object) I hope shows that, if nothing else.

    My thanks.

  2. I attended a work shop hosted by Cassey in Cambridge Ontario, Canada back in June of this year. His approach to pastel painting has had, what I call, a "turn-around effect" on my own work.Good work Cassey; keep on painting.

  3. I have been following Casey for a while now on his own blog but this is the first time I have seen a video of him working. I think Casey's colour sense is mesmerizing and the marks retain so much energy, I am always eager to see what is coming off his easel so thank you for this post.
