A Man Who Has Nothing In Particular To Recommend Him Discusses All Sorts of Subjects at Random as Though He Knew Everything

Laundry List

Whole lotta firepower on that stage with Arthur Conley. Stax/Volt was the shizzle.

When we used to play this song out in clubs, we referred to it as a “laundry list.” It means the song doesn’t really have any lyrics, it’s just a sort of shipping manifest with a beat. What’s your favorite laundry list song? How about Kung-fu Fighting?

  1. I don't know if these make the list (maybe too many lyrics) but I like them simply because of the grooves. "For the love of Money" O'Jays. "Love and Happiness" Al Green. "What is hip?" Tower of Power.

  2. Creeque Alley by the Mamas and the Papas is sort of a laundry list – kind of a list of inside jokes and adventures.

I seem to remember some dance songs that were lists of various dances popular among the youth of the time. Just can't remember the names of them right this minute.

  3. Man, I wish I hadn't started thinkin' about this – Johnny Cash, I've Been Everywhere.

I am sure Gilbert and Sullivan wrote a laundry list or two, but with luck, I will leave this topic alone for a while.

  4. I had no luck whatsoever.

I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General.

Rarely performed by rock bands, however.

  5. G Bob- There's bad, and then there's that.

It's like hitting a man in the head with a shovel and then forcing him to read an encyclopedia aloud.

  6. "Do Your Thing" and "Express Yourself,"
    -both by
Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band
(unique in that the band's name had more words then both of their hits combined)

  7. Johnny G- Oh, that's excellent.

    How about:

Just slip out the back, jack,
    Make a new plan, Stan,
No need to be coy, Roy…
