A Man Who Has Nothing In Particular To Recommend Him Discusses All Sorts of Subjects at Random as Though He Knew Everything

I Just Want To Say One Word To You – Just One Word.

Abandoned glass container factory in California. Many things have been abandoned in my lifetime. I don’t miss the rotary phone. I will refuse to eat from a dog dish to my dying day, however.

  1. That's still a lot more than one word. And it makes no sense to me. But that's the way it is so much of the time.

I guess I am not familiar enough with the world of glass or plastics to have the background for deciphering that. Hell, every dog dish my dogs have ever had have been metal.

  2. George nails it.

But here is the clip if you want to watch it for yourself.

The whole post is one of implied contrast. Sippican is happy about a lot of things that have changed over the years. But there is one thing he is not happy about, and that is the increased use of plastic on the dinning room table (and other places as well, but that is implicit in other post he has written.). In his view, only a dog should have to eat out of a plastic dish.

Reading Sippican is like reading poetry. If you are not willing to put some work into it, it is not going to make sense.

He might be an Irish Catholic by upbringing, but he has this Puritan belief that everyone should have to work for everything they get. Even basic things like comprehension.

  3. Wow, I guess I really need to get on the ball about seeing every movie that was ever made so that this sort of thing doesn't happen to me again.

And as an extra reason for head hanging, my laziness has been exposed once again by going another day without Googling or You-Tubing something. When will I ever get off my butt and earn something.

  4. Andy,

    Relax.

    I meant no offense.

A lot of time Sippican Cottage's pop culture references fly over my head as well. I have an easier time dealing with his classical and historical illusions. This is because I grew up without a TV (still don't have one) and I am a lot younger than Sippican is.

When Sippican's references fly over my head, sometimes I look them up and sometimes I don't. Depends on how much time I have.

I did not mean to appear to be talking down to you. I just got the impression that you honestly wanted to know the answer to your question and that you were a newbie to Sippican's blog. I was just trying to answer your question and let you know what Sippican's game was.

    Sorry for the offense.

  5. No problem, Chief. I did somewhat second guess my response, largely because I am quite used to things staying well above that level here at Sipp's place, and I didn't want to be the one to bring it down. Sometimes you just have to hit "publish comment," though, and damn the consequences. Or something.

Everyone is younger than Sippican. I do believe he is about 700 years old. How else could he pull the tricks he does?

  6. Hey, I'm not a day over 143. My liver is, of course, much older.

The Chieftain has made as accurate assessment of this blog as I've seen.
