This looks like the Grand Concourse in the Bronx, where I lived when I was a kid. Although this picture seems to date from before my time.
Melinda- I’ve been to the Bronx in the seventies, and I know where you mean; it does look like that. But the picture is from Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1942. Before my time too.
