I’d sell your heart to the junkman baby
For a buck, for a buck
If you’re looking for someone to pull you out of that ditch
You’re out of luck, you’re out of luck
Ship is sinking
The ship is sinking
The ship is sinking
There’s a leak, there’s a leak in the boiler room
The poor, the lame, the blind
Who are the ones that we kept in charge?
Killers, thieves and lawyers
God’s away, God’s away
God’s away on business, business
God’s away, God’s away
God’s away on business, business
Digging up the dead with a shovel and a pick
It’s a job, it’s a job
Bloody moon rising with a plague and a flood
Join the mob, join the mob
It’s all over, it’s all over
It’s all over
There’s a leak, there’s a leak in the boiler room
The poor, the lame, the blind
Who are the ones that we kept in charge?
Killers, thieves and lawyers
God’s away, God’s away
God’s away on business, business
God’s away, God’s away on business, business
Godddamn there’s always such a big temptation
To be good, to be good
There’s always free cheddar in a mousetrap, baby
It’s a deal, it’s a deal
God’s away, God’s away
God’s away on business, business
God’s away, God’s away
God’s away on business, business
I narrow my eyes like a coin slot baby
Let her ring, let her ring
God’s away, God’s away
God’s away on business, business
God’s away, God’s away
God’s away on business, business

I watched that.
I don't know why.
🙂
Thanks for sharing — in some weird way that was creatively spooky.
Hi Harriet- The Intertunnel is sort of 24/7 college-kid hipster "funny." Bad is good. Ugly is beautiful. Annoying is funny. That sort of thing.
Sometimes I'm sure that not very many people see how incongruous things really are; how at cross-purposed they work.
The video is kinda cute. Tom Waits sounds like a muppet and the Intertunnel gets a jolly.
But by god, that song is the blackest, most mournful thing spat into the universe's eye I've heard in decades. It's like Ozymandias' hunchback brother, the leper, slouching towards Bethlehem accompanied by a Caesarean horn section. It's awesome in the old sense of the term; terrifying.
It went through me like a nail.
Thanks for reading and commenting.
I love the way you defined "creatively spooky" for me.
🙂
I found it disturbing, yet clever, and I'm not that familiar with Tom Waits — but I agree about how the voice fit the puppet/muppet…
Do I use those interchangeably?
Don't answer that.
And the lyrics — well — nuff said.
