A Man Who Has Nothing In Particular To Recommend Him Discusses All Sorts of Subjects at Random as Though He Knew Everything

Life Changes As They Get Older. Mine, I Mean.

My little boy said “Trick-or-Treat” and “Thank you” like a trouper last night. He still held my hand and I had to carry him home. Fantastic. It’ll last a little longer, and I’m glad for it. You’re always proud and pleased every time you notice some advance in the sophistication and intellect of your children, but it’s a hard heart that doesn’t mourn the passing of the infantile coo and the bouncy coltish gait.

My older son ran around in a pack of pre-teens like hundred pound locusts, and I’m sure he’ll be be too old to Trick-or-Treat next year; a portent of things to come for me. But then again, things have already changed around here. Before he went to bed last night, he looked at me and said: ” I read your blog. Leave my candy alone.”

  1. “I read your blog. Leave my candy alone.”

    That is awesome.

We’re entering the joys and trials of having a teenage girl in the house.

Every age they’re at is a good one to be a dad.

  2. Reminds me of the time my mother was visiting and she stayed in one of the boys’ bedroom. He always put his favorite GI Joe on his nightstand and so, even with Grandma in his bed, he followed his routine and put the GI Joe on the nightstand. He left the room, then peaked back in and said, “Grandma, if you touch that, you’re dead meat”. I thought my Mom would die laughing after she got over the shock of what her sweet little 5 year old grandson had said! Yesterday, my husband was trying out his new toy that transfers our old videos of the kids to the computer and then to DVD’s. The boys always mugged for the camera so to get some footage of them acting normally my husband set up the camera on a tripod in the corner of the room and proceeded to assemble their new hot wheel with them helping with tools etc. It is one of the cutest tapes we have. I’d love to just start over and raise them again. I’m glad to see you enjoying all the stages of your boys lives!
